2026 San Diego SX Injury Report: Barcia, Stewart Out; Yoder In
The second round of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is set to take place in San Diego this weekend. Here's a breakdown of the injuries that will keep some riders on the sidelines.
Barcia's Back Issues
Barcia suffered a nasty crash at Anaheim 1, landing on top of Malcolm Stewart. Despite the dramatic scene, Barcia miraculously walked out of the hospital the next morning. He revealed that he simply 'broke a little wing' in his back, which won't require surgery, but he's dealing with intense soreness, especially in his neck and back. This injury will keep him out for the time being.
Bloss' Wrist Injury
During press day at Anaheim 1, Bloss went over the handlebars and broke his wrist on the landing. He'll be off the bike for a solid five to six weeks, missing several races.
Lawrence's Ankle Fracture
Lawrence is facing a lengthy recovery after fracturing his right ankle/foot while preparing for the supercross season. This injury will sideline him for at least three months.
Smith's Shoulder Surgery
Smith underwent shoulder surgery during the off-season to address an injury sustained at the final round of the 2025 Monster Energy SMX World Championship. He's back on the bike and is expected to return around the seventh round.
Stewart's Dislocated Shoulder
Malcolm Stewart suffered a dislocated shoulder in the crash with Barcia at Anaheim 1. As of now, there's no official word from the team on his return to racing.
Beaumer's Back Injury
Beaumer will not race any supercross in 2026 as he continues to recover from a burst fracture to his L3 vertebra, which he sustained last year in the SMX Playoffs. This injury will keep him out for the entire season.
Shimoda's Spine Injury
Shimoda is out for the immediate future after a crash in November resulted in a fractured and displaced vertebra in his upper back and lower neck. He's undergone surgery and will return to racing at a later date.
Yoder's ACL Tear
Yoder sustained a partially torn ACL in a tip-over just before Anaheim 1. Despite this, he raced in the opener and will continue to do so. This injury highlights the resilience and determination of these athletes.
